Frequently Asked Questions:

Why should I install a life safety system? >

1) Avoid being a victim, most break-ins are a crime of opportunity.  An alarmed security system takes away the opportunity.

2) Protects your home whether you are home or away.  Whether you desire to protect your family, pets and your home from theft, fire, frozen pipes, flood or medical alert, a monitored system will call for help when you cannot.

3) Can save you up to 15% on your homeowner’s premium. Insurance companies have discovered that a home with anti-theft devices and monitored smoke detectors are less likely to have a claim.Even if there is an insurance claim, the costs to the insurance company are usually greatly reduced and pass the some of the savings back to you.

Is the system easy to use?

Security systems have come a long way. If you can dial a touch-tone telephone, you can operate a security system. You will only need a 4-digit code to turn the system on and off.  Most children can quickly learn to use the system.

How reliable is the equipment?

Very!Electronic equipment has become much more reliable and security systems are no exceptions. Our components are tested by the manufacturer and by our technician in your home.National statistics show that the vast majority of “false alarms” are the result of human error not the equipment.

Flexibility

Simple instructions allow you to make changes in the system if you desire. System can be hardwired or wireless or both depending on your needs and the construction of your home.

Does Sentinel care what my home looks like?

>We care what your home looks like both during the installation and how the security devices will look in your home. At SENTINEL, our installers leave your home looking the way they found it before the installation. We place the security devices keeping in mind how they look in your home as well as making sure you get the security coverage you need.

If an alarm situation occurs, what does Sentinel do?

When an alarm occurs in your home, it is sent over your telephone line to SENTINEL’S own UL approved monitoring center. Here our highly trained people will provide the proper response to your alarm. To give a few examples: If is a fire alarm your local fire department will quickly be informed. In the case of a break-in, the police will be informed. If it is a panic button the police will be informed of this as well so they know there is no chance it is a false alarm. If your basement should begin to flood during the Vermont spring thaw, we could call the person of your choice, be it a neighbor or plumber.

Carbon Monoxide Detectors

Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless and poisonous gas which is produced when fuels containing carbon are burned where there is too little oxygen and when fuels are burned at too high temperatures. CO (carbon monoxide) is poisonous when inhaled because it mixes with hemoglobin, the oxygen-carrying substance in red blood cells. The hemoglobin then cannot take up oxygen it requires from the air. This lack of oxygen causes cells and tissues to die. CO is especially dangerous because it has no odor. The exhaust gases of gasoline engines always contain CO. Automobile and lawn mower engines should never be operated in closed unventilated areas.

Many deaths occur each year when CO gas escapes from stoves and furnaces where ventilation is improperly regulated. Many deaths also occur each year from faulty automobile exhaust pipes that allow exhaust fumes to escape and enter the passenger compartment.

It is for this reason that Sentinel Alarm offers Carbon Monoxide Detectors. They are an important part of a total security system for any home or business.
